Lila and Digs

Pound cakes. Two black dogs, both about 40 lbs. adopted on the same day from the shelter. But different in every way.
Lila, who as pup had someone try to drown her, thinks that you should choose your friends carefully.
Digs, also known as Hot Diggity Dog, is a party girl, as long as you are doing what she wants to do.

When we moved into town it was new tricks for the girls. They had to go from property protectors extraordinaire to polite city dogs. At first they barked at everything. There's a car going down the street! Oh my God, there's a person walking by. Garbage trucks! Mail carriers on the porch! After a couple years, they got the hang of things. Learned to love walking the alleys, sniffing the messages of other dogs.

And they started getting old. In August 2015, Digs died of kidney disease, following in the footsteps of many good cats and dogs before her. Lila, at age 13, has congestive heart failure, so it won't long before she goes too. And then I will be dogless for the first time in decades.
